CIBC Innovation Banking has hired Charlie Kelly as a manager director.
Kelly will head the technology financing and advisory group’s new office in Denver, Colorado.
Kelly joins CIBC from Silicon Valley Bank, where he served for more than a decade, most recently as a managing director with the Colorado technology group. Before then, he was a U.S. Navy officer.
CIBC Innovation Banking launched in January with the acquisition of the assets of Canadian specialty finance firm Wellington Financial.

CIBC Innovation Banking Continues North American Expansion with new office in U.S. Mountain Region
Denver, CO and Toronto, ON (September 7, 2018) – CIBC Innovation Banking is pleased to announce the recruitment of another senior industry leader, Charlie Kelly, to its growing team. Charlie will head up CIBC Innovation Banking’s recently-opened office in Denver, Colorado.
Charlie brings 11 years’ experience in the financial services industry, where he has spent the last 7 years focused on supporting the financial needs of venture-backed technology and life science companies in Colorado and the broader Mountain Region. In his most recent role, he was a Managing Director with Silicon Valley Bank’s Colorado Technology group.
As an active member within the startup ecosystem, Charlie has held board and advisory roles with Pledge 1% Colorado and the Startup Colorado Advisory Board. Prior to a career in banking, Charlie served as a nuclear-trained lieutenant aboard the USS Tucson (SSN-770) submarine stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI. He is a graduate of Duke University (Political Science, 2000) and the University of Colorado (MBA, 2007). Charlie and his family make their home in Boulder, CO and enjoy exploring the forests, peaks, mountain bike trails and ski slopes of the Rocky Mountains.
This most recent announcement follows the opening of new CIBC Innovation Banking offices in Vancouver, BC, Reston, VA and Montreal, QC.
